1. What Savi LoopIQ produces
Savi LoopIQ ingests process trend data (typically PV and OP from a step or bump test) and returns:
- A first-order-plus-dead-time (FOPDT) model fit.
- Suggested PID tuning parameters based on standard rules (IMC, Lambda, Cohen-Coon, etc.).
- Simulated closed-loop responses, robustness margins, and Bode/Nyquist plots.
- Diagnostic flags (stiction, oscillation, saturation).
- Educational text from the AI Instructor.
These outputs are recommendations derived from mathematical models. They are not certifications, engineering seals, or professional advice.
2. What Savi LoopIQ does not do
- It does not know your process safety limits, interlock design, or hazard analyses.
- It does not know equipment health, valve condition, sensor calibration, or fouling.
- It does not account for grade transitions, seasonal effects, or upstream/downstream coupling.
- It does not replace hazard reviews (HAZOP, LOPA, PHA), management of change (MoC), or operator training.
- It does not write to control hardware. All application of gains is manual and remains under your control.
3. Your responsibilities
Before applying any Savi LoopIQ output to a real control loop, you must:
- Verify the identified model matches process behaviour at multiple operating points.
- Confirm the recommended gains are within the range allowed by site standards.
- Review interactions with cascaded, coupled, or safety-instrumented loops.
- Follow your facility's Management of Change (MoC) procedure.
- Test in a safe operating window with an engineer or operator present who can revert.
- Document who reviewed and approved the change.
4. High-risk applications
- Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) under IEC 61511 / ISA-84.
- Nuclear, offshore, aviation, medical, or pharmaceutical (GMP) critical control.
- Fired heaters, reactors, or any loop whose failure could cause loss of life, environmental release, or major property damage.
For those loops, use Savi LoopIQ only as an educational reference, and follow the applicable engineering standard and site licensing requirements.
5. Data quality is your responsibility
Bad input produces bad output. Savi LoopIQ does its best to reject noisy or non-informative data, but you are responsible for ensuring that uploaded trends: come from the correct tags, cover a clean step, are free of grade changes or upsets during the test, and use a sample rate that resolves the process dynamics.
6. No warranty; no liability for physical damage
Savi LoopIQ is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind. Consistent with our Terms of Service, we disclaim liability to the maximum extent permitted by law for any damage, injury, loss of production, off-spec product, equipment failure, environmental release, or business interruption arising from application of Savi LoopIQ output to real equipment.
7. Reporting a safety concern
If you believe a Savi LoopIQ recommendation could cause a hazardous condition, stop using it and email safety@savagetechnicalsolutions.com with the loop details, uploaded file, and recommendation output. We take these reports seriously.
